A practical homeowner checklist for discussing your appraisal and preparing for a property visit.
Before the appointment
Confirm the address, contact details and access arrangements. Tell the appraiser about tenants, pets or areas requiring special arrangements. Ask which documents are useful for your specific assignment.
Have the property story ready
Make a short list of significant improvements, approximate dates and known issues. Plans, permits or other records may be useful if available. Keep factual changes separate from estimates of what they added to value.
During the visit
An appraisal visit gathers property information for valuation. It may involve observations, measurements and photographs according to the scope. It is not a substitute for a technical building-condition inspection.
After the visit
Inspection is one part of the work. Research and analysis continue afterwards. Confirm how questions and any additional information should be provided, and how delivery timing will be communicated.
